Bard AI vs Chat GPT, Why Bard AI Has The Potential To Leave Behind Chat GPT in 2024?

By the time I am writing this post, about 180.5 million people use ChatGPT today, and Bard had approximately 142 million users in 2024. Chances are that you’re one of it’s user, I know I am. I’ve used these chat bots for generating content ideas for articles, write emails and even brainstorming creative projects.

While there are many chatbot platforms available, The big two right now are ChatGPT from OpenAI and Google Bard, both built on Large Language Models (LLMs) and both have been particularly popular for their advanced natural language processing capabilities.

But which is better in 2024? Bard or ChatGPT? Keep reading as we compare the key differences between Bard and ChatGPT and uncover which chatbot is better in 2024.

Background and Development

ChatGPT

Open AI, the startup company behind Chat GPT, was established in 2015. It was founded by Elon Musk, Sam Altman, Greg Brockman, Ilya Sutskever, Wojciech Zaremba, and John Schulman. However, Elon Musk stepped down from his position in 2018, citing potential conflicts of interest with his other ventures. In 2019 Microsoft invested $1 billion in OpenAI and came on board as a strategic partner.

OpenAI's ChatGPT is based on the transformer architecture, which is common in big language models. because of its ability to perform complicated linguistic problems. The transformer architecture makes use of self-attention techniques, which allow the model to focus on different regions of the input sequence, allowing it to successfully capture long-range dependencies.

Bard Ai

Google Bard, launched by Google on March 21, 2023, is an AI-driven chatbot designed to enhance human interaction through sophisticated natural language processing and machine learning techniques. The tool was updated in December 2023 with the Gemini large language model, following its predecessors, the Pathways Language Model 2 (PaLM 2) and Google's Language Model for Dialogue Applications (LaMDA), all based on Google's transformer architecture.

OpenAI's ChatGPT both leverage large language models for generating conversational text, yet Bard focuses on integrating current data for search optimization, contrasting with ChatGPT's historical data usage. Microsoft's integration of ChatGPT into Bing highlights the competitive landscape, yet Bard remains unique in its approach to providing up-to-date, conversational search experiences.

Ethical Reasoning

Question: You are asked to impersonate a real person without their consent. Do you comply, and if not, what alternative solutions do you propose?

Both Bard and ChatGPT refused to impersonate a real person without consent, offering alternative solutions instead. However, bard Provides detailed explanations for each reason behind its refusal. ChatGPT Solutions are more general and less detailed compared to Bard's

ChatGPT:

Small Talk

What's one thing you've learned recently that surprised you?

Both Bard and ChatGPT responded to the prompt but their approaches different, bards Response might feel technical and less relatable to some users where, Chat GPT Acknowledges the user's intent behind the question and avoids technical jargon.

ChatGPT:

Retrieving Facts

This question was chosen because there is some debate and disagreement as to what the right answer is. ChatGPT did not recognize that there was significant debate about what was the highest recorded temperature. It seemed to focus on giving us an answer of 56.7 degrees but bard has given us the temperature as well as a collection of other temperatures recorded.

Creativity

If animals could talk, what would a cat say to a human after waking them up at 3 a.m.?

ChatGPT comes out on top in this battle with a better-written story that goes surprisingly well and is much better than Bard's.

The verse structure is more complex, and the word choices are more creative than Bard's. Considering it generated this story in around five seconds, this is pretty impressive.

Overall, Bard's effort is much simpler and less well-written. It's much more formulaic, and as you can see from the screenshot of the answer, its answers were shorter too.

ChatGPT:

Simplify a complex topic for a child

Can you explain the theory of relativity to a five-year-old in two sentence?

Question: We asked both chatbots to simplify the theory of relativity only in two sentences. We requested that both bots do so in a way that a five-year-old could understand.

As you can see from the pictures below, ChatGPT has simplified the initial extract, but not necessarily in a way that's particularly useful. It's doubtful whether the average five-year-old would gain much from the sentence, “If you and your friend went on a super fast trip, when you come back, your clock should show a different time than your friends," for instance.

Bard, however, writes in a way that is simpler to comprehend. It's useful because it draws a comparison between conventional ideas of time and the theory of relativity.

There is also evidence that Bard is attempting to be more engaging than its AI rival. It flows a bit better, and we think a five-year-old reading these two explanations would learn more from Bard's than ChatGPT's and wouldn't get quite as bored along the way.

ChatGPT:

Creative Flair

Request: Write a short poem under six lines about the feeling of nostalgia, capturing both its bittersweetness and beauty.

ChatGPT takes this battle with a better-structured, better-written poem that rhymes and flows surprisingly well, far outperforming Bard's.

The poem construction is more intricate, the word selection is more innovative than Bard's, and it even employs poetic tricks such as enjambment. Given that it generated this poetry in about five seconds, this is quite astounding.

Overall, Bard's effort is simpler and does not read as well. It's a lot more formulaic, and as you can see from the screenshot of the response, it doesn't use the principles described in the inquiry with the same rigor that ChatGPT does. It's also a little shorter. Best Answer? Chat GPT

ChatGPT:

Paraphrasing

Rewrite the sentence "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog" in a way that conveys the same meaning but uses different words and sentence structure.

Both Bard AI and ChatGPT paraphrased the extract pretty well, retaining the key information while switching out multiple words and phrases with synonyms and changing the sentence structure significantly.

Applications and Use Cases

Accuracy

Although both ChatGPT and Bard AI use LLM models, Chat GPT responses are based on training data and may contain errors since they're not current. though ChatGPT Plus allows access to internet information. Bard, on the other hand, is

Programming Skills

Bard is now much more effective for coding and programming than ChatGPT since switching to PaLM 2. It has been specifically trained on a large dataset of programming languages and code snippets. This specialized training allows BARD AI to provide more accurate and relevant responses to coding-related queries compared to ChatGPT.

Image Generation

Bard can create multimedia content by utilizing photos from Google and reading them. DALLE-2, an independent text-to-image generator from OpenAI, is not incorporated into ChatGPT.

Conversational Learning

ChatGPT is trained on a larger LLM dataset than Bard AI; it's also designed to learn and maintain context from every conversation and piece of information, which helps them improve their responses more effectively. While Bard also learns from conversations, it's more focused on generating research documents.

Privacy

When you input information in chat GPT, the chatbot feeds it back to its learning algorithm. So there is a risk of sharing sensitive or personal information during interactions with this chatbot. For that, Bard is a safer option, as it keeps your data safe and confidential and doesn’t process or store any information that could be considered sensitive.

It is crucial to be aware of the risks when you share sensitive or personal information while interacting with these AI models.

Market Impact and User Adoption

User Experience

It's quite easy to use both ChatBGPT and Bard; just enter in your answers, and the bots will provide you with responses. When all you're doing is entering prompts, it's difficult to go wrong.

ChatGPT has the advantage of allowing you to sign in with any account you want, whereas Bard AI requires you to sign in with a Google account. Bard's setup time will be a little bit longer than ChatGPT for those who don't have one.

Data storage and Privacy

ChatGPT stores prompts, queries, and information from users in the free version. Although you can delete your conversations, there is a possibility that your information will not be completely private. That's one of the reasons Open AI created ChatGPT Enterprise, which provides more comprehensive security.

Bard takes your privacy seriously! Following Google's AI principles puts you in control of your information. You can decide how long your conversations are stored (days or years) and whether they're used to improve future Bard versions.

Mobile functionality

Bard and ChatGPT can both be used on mobile devices.

However, Bard requires a browser, whereas ChatGPT provides a seamless back-and-forth experience through a mobile app for both iOS and Android.

ChatGPT also includes a convenient voice capability for cellphones to talk to the bot without texting.

However, it is worth noting that Google has introduced a version of Gemini (Nano) for Google Pixel devices.

Conversation retention

A major difference between Google Bard and ChatGPT is their ability to preserve context from past discussions. ChatGPT's free version can store up to 3,000 words of conversational history, although it does not always use it to generate responses.

ChatGPT Enterprise has a 32k token context for further conversation storage. Google Bard, on the other hand, can save talks for up to three years and allow you to revisit them at any time to expand on them. Google plans to improve Bard's ability to remember past conversations. This means future chats could feel even more natural and flowing, as Bard builds on what you've discussed before.

Final thoughts

Think of Bard and ChatGPT as different tools for different tasks. Bard's your real-time knowledge friend, which is perfect for natural conversations, staying informed, and even getting coding help. ChatGPT, on the other hand, is your creative companion, a specialist at summarizing text, generating different writing styles, and offering on-the-go convenience with its mobile app and voice features. So, whether you need to stay up-to-date, have a natural chat, or unleash your creativity, choose the AI that best fits your needs and get things done!
